Prize to assist with publication of CASS PhD thesis

The CASS Humanities, Creative Arts and Social Sciences ANU E Press Editorial Board is offering a prize of $5,000 for the best completed and passed PHD thesis submitted to it for publication.

Half the prize will be paid in cash to the successful applicant, and the other half will be to meet expenses associated with having the manuscript professionally copy edited and indexed.

Eligibility: Any PHD thesis from a postgraduate student registered with an academic location within the College of Arts and Social Sciences that has been passed since January 2006. (Theses completed within other Colleges are not eligible.)

Nominations close 30 August 2010

Nomination for the prize: Nominations will be through the Head of the relevant academic location within CASS. Each location may nominate up to two theses. The nomination should be accompanied by (a) the original full examiners’ reports; (b) a one page statement from the student responding to their examiners’ reports and outlining how they plan to convert the thesis into a book which would attract a wider readership; (c) a one page statement from the head of location in support of the nomination. There are no forms for the nomination.

Timeframe:  The closing date for nominations will be the 30th August 2010. A decision will be made by 17 September 2010. The prize-winner will be expected to have completed revisions to the thesis and have had it copy edited by 31st July 2011.

Publication form: The manuscript will be published free in electronic form, but it will also be available as a print-on-demand hard copy at a little above production costs.
